CONCEDING a last minute equaliser denied Tynedale Ladies victory on the final day of the season.

Leading third placed Morpeth III 3-1, second placed Tyne weren’t able to hang on as a late leveller saw the game finish 3-3.

Tynedale started brightly as they created a number of chances, but it wasn’t until promising junior Annie Anderson scored twice that they were able to make the most of their pressure with one goal a neat reverse flick past the goalkeeper.

They were 3-1 up at the break when player of the match Sophie Mitchell slotted the ball home after winger Gemma Stephenson drove down the wing and played her in.

Morpeth exerted a lot of pressure after the break and they narrowed the gap against a tiring Tynedale side.

Eleanor Pearson, Katy Brown and Lorraine Bell worked increasingly hard, but a solo run for the Morpeth centre forward saw her score the equaliser just before full time.

Despite losing to a golden goal in extra time to Newcastle University IV after a 4-4 thriller recently, Tynedale have been invited to contest the County Plate final with Whitley Bay on Sunday as the Uni are unable to field a team.

Tynedale men’s second team were eliminated from the County Plate quarter-finals as they fell to four goals to Newcastle.

While the game was closely fought, Newcastle showed a clinical side in front of goal and they took an early lead when they swept a shot past Paddy Lally at his near post.

Tynedale were the dominant side for the remainder of the half as they made the Newcastle goalkeeper work hard, junior Connor Stith with the best opportunities but unable to find a way past.

Tyne continued to push for an equaliser but were hit on the counter attack three times, and they finish their promotion-winning season with a trip to Durham City III at the weekend.

After a number of idle weekends with their opponents unable to field sides, Tynedale III finally returned to action.

However, they ended up on the losing side to Morpeth IV as a late goal proved the difference between two teams mixing youth with experience.

Morpeth took an early lead from a short corner, and they would have been further ahead but not for some great saves from goalkeeper Alex Tortice.

Tyne equalised before half time when Anthony Armstrong pounced to send home the rebound after Sean Cunningham’s flick was saved.

Juniors Dom Nessom and Jack Cawood caused constant down down the right hand side for a buoyed Tynedale, but they were stung by Morpeth’s winner against the run of play.
