YOUNG runners have received expert training tips from a past winner of the Junior Great North Run (GNR).
Max Pearson, who won the event four years in a row between 2011 and 2015, led a group of runners signed up for this year's 4km run during a training session at Hexham's Wentworth Leisure Centre.
The 10 junior runners were part of a larger group of 51 taking part in the GNR to raise money for Tynedale Hospice at Home, with the aim of raising a combined total of £2,500 for the charity.
Max, a pupil at Hexham's Queen Elizabeth High School, has likewise raised cash for the hospice in the past, and wanted to continue supporting it through the special training afternoon.
He said: "I am honoured to be supporting this great group of runners in their training as they prepare for the run.
"I put them through their paces with basic warm-up and cool down exercises, and shared some simple hints and tips about training in the tun-up to the Junior GNR.
"It was all based on my own experience preparing for the race which I've run in the five past times. It's a great event and the atmosphere is absolutely amazing."
