HUNDREDS of runners young and old will again descend in East Tynedale for the annual Essity Prudhoe Miners' Race.

The event returns to the town on Sunday, October 1, with adults to take in a 10km route, and children to run either 3km or 1.5km.

The historic race was revived to coincide with the Olympic Torch passing through the town back in 2012, and has gone from strength-to-strength in the five years since its return.

Starting at 10am, Waterworld will be used as the race headquarters.

Town resident Terry Scott claimed the top prize in 2016, with Helen Gertig triumphant in the women's race.

There are plenty of races lined up for the younger people of the area, with 3km races for those falling in the U13, U15 and U17 age categories.

Children aged U11 can take part in the mini run measured at 1.5km.

Among the winners in the junior runs last year were Prudhoe duo Jack Boaden and Keeley French.

Both the junior and mini races start and finish at the Tyne Countryside Park, with the minis off at 11.30am and the juniors half an hour later.

Online registration is available at www.runnation.co.uk.
