SPORTY students from Hexham were the model of good behaviour as they toured Australia.

A total of 47 pupils from Queen Elizabeth High School did their town proud as they made the long trip to play the Aussies at netball, football and rugby.

The tour started at All Saints‘ College, in Perth, before they moved to the Sunshine Coast to pay a visit to Matthew Flinders Anglican College, in Queensland. They then paid a return visit to Ryan Catholic College, in Townsville, after pupils visited Hexham in 2013. While in Townsville, they also headed to Ignatius Park College and Cathedral School.

PE teacher Steve Mullins, who accompanied the pupils on the tour, said: “This is the first time the school has gone that far on tour, and the feedback we got off everybody was so pleasing to hear.

”When they stayed with families, parents said they would be proud if their children were as well behaved as them when they reach 17 and you don’t get better praise than that.“

Amy Ricketts was tour captain, with Craig Burdis, Joe Purvis and Molly McCleary respective skippers in football, rugby and netball. Later this year, Hexham will host pupils from Matthew Flinders and Ignatius Park, while QE plan to head back to Australia in 2017.
