ASHINGTON Hirst Running Club member Kurt Heron blew the field away as he claimed victory in the Wallington 10K.

In a time of 33 minutes and 30 seconds (33:31), he finished almost six minutes ahead of his closest rivals to take the victory in fine fashion.

Building up a healthy lead from the start, he kept up his blistering pace over the six miles to record such an impressive time.

Finishing second was Paul Jones (39:10), a footballer with Ponteland United, with John Lowes (39:28) close behind to make it a good day for Elswick Harriers, as they claimed the team prize.

The trio kept the impressive Catherine Young (40:49) out of the top three as she added to her list of victories this year by winning the female race.

In sixth place overall, Sarah Armstrong (41:55), of Cannock and Stafford AC, was second, with Jamie Morris (47:48) third.

Ponteland Runners wrapped up the women's team prize with Anna Tweddell (48:18), Fiona Nicholson (48:37), Judith Benson (56:54) and Amelia Dakin (59:11) representing the club. They were joined by clubmate Nick Winslow (48:05) who was second in the V55 category.
