A TOP score of -1 on the second day helped Tynedale professional Martin Forster (right) to an impressive debut on the PGA Seniors circuit.

Nobody bettered his score on the second round on his first seniors outing at Foxhills Golf Club, taking his total for the competition to +5 after shooting +6 on the opening day. With scores running high, his final total saw him tied sixth overall.

In club competition, Nick Collins (83-23-60) lifted the Mercantile Trophy as he finished ahead of Michael Stonehouse (78-14-64) and Bob Robinson (92-28-66).

The popular Garwen Enterprises Texas Scramble was won by the team of Steve Plemper jnr, Duncan Douglas, Tristram Douglas and Ken Robinson (54.9), with Gary Sanderson, Johnny Dodd, Bobby Daglish and Gary Wilkinson (55.1) second and Bob Smith, Jimmy Compton, Pete Carson and Colin Pearson (56.6) third.

In the ladies’ sections, former captain Anne Brown topped the Neilson Trophy from Pam Hawes and Liz Heppel. The top three in the Geraldine Tinning Trophy were Sally Weir (70), Linda Murray (73) and Angela Gilhesphy (77).

Alec Jones scored a double at Bellingham as he won both the Medal Championship Qualifier (74-4-70) and the Hadrian League Challenge Cup Qualifier (76-4-72).

Trevor Hignett (93-23-70) and Anthony Gray (83-11-72) were second and third in the opening competition, with Dom Rapier (78-5-73) and Hignett (95-22-73) occupying the places in the latter one.

Frank Cowan (88-21-67) won the Walton Cup ahead of John Roberts (74-6-68) and Allan Murray (79-11-68).

The winner of the Ladies Challenge Cup was Shirley Carruthers (97-24-73), with Jane Jones (87-13-74) second and Christine Robson (97-21-76) third. Joan Batey (17) headed out runner-up Wendy Wright (15) for the win in the nine hole stableford.

John Grey was celebrating victory in the PGA Pro-Am qualifier at Stocksfield as he emerged triumphant from close to 100 entrants.

Posting figures of 77-13-64, he finished top of the pops as he saw off the challenge of Jon Douglas (72-6-66) and third placed John Steventon (76-10-66).

Dogulas (69-7-62) enjoyed success in Division One of the May Medal as he finished ahead of Graeme Simpson (72-6-66) second and Dom Lee (67-1-66). Frank Rooney (83-18-65) triumphed in Division Two with Keith Martinson (82-16-66) and Denis Noble (85-18-67) not far behind.

The championship qualifier was won by Eric Wood (40), with Barney Armstrong (38) and John Brinkhurst (37) making up the top three. David Bell and Erin Goodfellow (80-7.5-72.5) combined for the mixed Hunter Trophies, ahead of David Byerley and Jen Langrish (95-20-75) and Jo Blackburn and Mick Byerley (91-14.5-76.5).

The team of Robert Hollings, Mark Johnson and Malcolm Peart (65-10-55) lifted the Club Sweep. Runners-up were Trevor Liddle, Bob Stevenson and Peter Talbot (66-9-57) with Sue Brown, Alex Johnson and Paul Johnson (68-11-57) third.

The club’s Seniors Stableford was won on countback by Bert Garrow (36), edging out Keith Woods (36). Third place went to Keith Martinson (35). Andy Todd (37) needed countback to win the third Fred Punshon in a close fought competition, seeing off the challenge of second placed Josh McCutcheon (37) and Ray Spoor (37).

The next eight players through the second Laing qualifying stage at Hexham were Ross Donaldson (75-7-68), Gary Cunningham (80-11-69), Jason Moncur (74-4-70); Simon Clayton-Hibbott (82-11-71), Alan Johnston (88-17-71), Michael Ridley (87-11-71), Antonio Digirolamo (91-20-71) and George Noble (87-16-71).

Chester Harrison (66) topped the Thursday Medal, with David Ian Murray (68) second and Phil Rainford (68) third.

Mr and Mrs Coombes-Ballard (67.6) stuck together to lift the Welch Trophy mixed greensomes medal, seeing off the challenge of Mr and Mrs Cunliffe (68.6) and Mr and Mrs Crawford (68.6).

In the ladies’ section, Janet Rossiter (41) won Division One of the Leukaemia Research competition, with Val Robinson (41) runner-up. Pat Borthwick (38) was triumphant in Division Two ahead of Gillian Banks (36). Both runners-up went on to taste success in the opening medal, Val Robinson (80-10-70) winning Division One and Gillian Banks (108-30-78) triumphant in the second division.

Anne Moyle (93-19-74) won the second medal ahead of Stella Robertson (90-25-75), with Sue Cooke (98-26-72) winning Division Two with Sandra Gradwell (99-24-73) second. Jennifer Stobbs (20) won the nine hole competition.

Alan Batey and Alex Heppell (47) teamed up for the win in the Hadrian SC Cup at Haltwhistle . Keith Mather and Chris Anson (46) was second and John Tweddle and Simon Armstrong (46) third.
