A SCHEME to get adults playing hockey again has resulted in a first home fixture for a group of Tynedale women.

Tynedale Hockey Club runs Back to Hockey sessions every Wednesday at Hexham's Queen Elizabeth High School between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, and training sessions has resulted in fixtures with other clubs.

And it saw Tynedale recently host a three-way tournament with teams from Durham City and Durham Dales travelling for the contest, many players, some at an advanced age, getting a first taste of competitive hockey while others have returned after many years out.

For Tynedale, Sarah Bolton and Kerry Stith both played magnificently in defence, while Meriel East and Jackie Stevenson combined well in attack.

The midfield of Sarah Myers, Marie Browne, Niki McNichol, Maggie Coombe and Debbie Nickless all worked hard, and were all glad of the new rolling subs rule!

The team was completed by coach and time keeper Annie Pimms, whose motivational words kept up team morale.

Meanwhile, Tynedale's men's sections restart training on Tuesday at QEHS, with sessions for all three teams, running from 6.30pm to 8pm.

The Ladies' Northumberland B League team are back in action on Wednesday evenings at Walbottle Campus between 6.30pm and 8pm.

Training for juniors will start again on Sunday, September 10.
