DANIEL Joyce took the plaudits for Tynedale Harriers by recording success at the new venue of Herrington Park.

The youngster led the way in the U15 boys’ race as he was first finisher from the field, running from the slow pack and managing to stay well clear of the fast packers for a winning margin of close to 30 seconds.

As a result of his performance, Daniel will be promoted to the fast pack alongside Tynedale teammate Aidan Pinkney who managed to claim 19th on the day.

Completing Tynedale’s team, Joe Green was 27th from the slow pack and the team finished in fourth place overall.

The boys were just some of the many representatives in a black vest which took to the muddy venue at Herrington Park, in the shadow of Penshaw Monument.

Almost 1,300 runners in total took to the new and challenging cross-country course, which scored thumbs up from participants.

There were good performances from Tynedale’s U13 girls with Kate Salthouse claiming a fantastic 14th spot from the fast pack.

Ciara Thornley was 20th and fast packer Lucy Thorpe 58th as the team claimed 10th. There was a good turnout for Tynedale in the U17/U20 women’s race, as a sixth place finish on the day leaves them lying in that position with two fixtures remaining.

Hannah Pinkney had her usual strong run as she claimed seventh in a field of 40, the run seeing her promoted to the fast pack.

Lisa Thornley in 26th and Rosie Dawson in 30th were the team’s other two counters, with Ellie Bluck and Freya Murphy also representing the team.

Charlie Daley and Archie Marston both ran from the fast pack in the U13 boys’ race and finished 11th and 29th respectively from a large field of 64 runners.

Jasmine Couchman was the only Tynedale runner in the U15 girls’ race, and finished in 25th from the fast pack.

In the non-handicapped U11 races, Nathaniel Henderson once again had a great run to finish eighth from the 84 entrants.

Guy Bentley and Jem Henderson raced all the way to the line for 31st and 33rd respectively, while Hannah Skinner and Rebecca Green both impressed in the girls’ race in ninth and 38th spots.

Tynedale women again turned out in force with six taken to the start line for the penultimate race of the day.

Running from the fast pack, Karen Robertson managed to glide past 300 women who were struggling to stay on their feet on the muddy course to finish in 34th place.

Elizabeth Earle, from the slow pack, was second counter for the team in 51st.

Rachel Vincent, Kim Bluck and Charlie Pinkney all started from the fast pack and battled it out around the two laps, finishing within eight seconds of each other in 133rd, 135th and 140th.

Bridget Broadhurst completed the team which claimed 10th on the day, leaving them in sixth in Division One after four fixtures.

Ben Rowley once again proved his worth in the men’s race as, despite being promoted to the medium pack at the last fixture, he finished in 75th from almost 550 runners.

The club’s only fast packer, Andy Green, was second counter in 137th, while Jaycee Shotton, from the medium pack, was third Tynedale runner home in 245th.

Mike Broadhurst, Keith Lombard and Bernard Kivlehan were the final three scorers, with Paul Edwin completing the team.

After finishing 11th, the next fixture means it is make or break for the Tynedale team if they wish to avoid relegation for next season.

Just two fixtures remain in the North East Harrier League, starting with the visit to Thornley Hall Farm, in Peterlee, on February 11.
