HALTWHISTLE continued their excellent form as they gained another piece of silverware.

After scooping the West Tyne Bowls League title, they went on to win this weekend’s league gala day trophy. Hosting the mammoth day of bowling, followed by a fine meal, they defeated Prudhoe in the final.

Allen Valley trio Penny, George and Samantha Little won the triples competition in style, defeating Trevor Field, Keith Woods and Brian Norman, of Hexham Elvaston, 19-8 after winning the final nine ends.

Penny and George then reached the semi-finals of the Elvaston Open mixed triples event, which was curtailed by rain with prizes awarded to teams as they stood.

On that basis, the winners were a Sunderland pair, partnered by Anne Bisset-Johnson, of Elvaston, with a host team led by Richard Hart-Jackson second and a Hexham House team with Sheila Storey third.
