THE new captains at Stocksfield attracted a good turn-out as they drove off for the first time this season.

Club captain Neil Henderson, Diane Harvey (ladies), Keith Woods (seniors) and Oliver Wilson (juniors) were introduced as the respective captains as they hit good drives under the watchful eyes of fellow members.

The club’s Braidwood Cup attracted 135 entries, with Martin Wilkinson (42) topping the leaderboard. It was a close call with Alexander Brown (41) second and Richard Reay (40) third.

In the Fred Punshon #2, James Hall (82-13-69) came out on top from Mick Allen (94-25-69) with countback needed to separate the two. Ray Spoors (95-24-71) was third.

In the ladies’ section Jo Blackburn and Brenda Mills (30) teamed up to win the RVI Fours from Doreen Hall and Ann Walker (26).

Meanwhile, Liz Hartley (81-9-72) won the 3rd Medal and Spoon, from Muriel Forster (86-13-73) and Diane Harvey (105-32-73).

Hexham ladies’ first team came away with an away win (4.5-3.5) over Bamburgh Castle, while their Nora Percy team edged out Gosforth Park 3-2.

Internally, there was double success for Jane Bradley (94-21-73) as she won the National Playing Fields Trophy and Division Two of the April Medal. Division One was won by Anne Suddes (90-18-72). The male golfers at the club were involved in the first of two qualifying rounds for the Laing Trophy, with Malcolm Copland (64), Daryl Illingworth (64) and John Dunn (66) occupying the top three.

Steve Plemper jnr (77-10-67) triumphed in the Charlton Trophy, played at Tynedale , with Peter Brown (84-11-69) second on countback from Graeme Halkerston (80-11-69).

Members from Tynedale visited neighbours Allendale as it was their turn to host the annual Ryder Cup inspired competition between the clubs, and it was a close-run thing again with Allendale shading it 12-11.

The younger generation at Allendale is thriving with Jake Reed carding 41-14-27 in the nine-hole Junior Medal to claim victory from Jack Campbell.

In the adults’ section, Ron Jamieson (42) excelled to take the Allendale Cup from second placed Richie Rutherford (40) and third placed Peter Robinson (38).

Meanwhile, the Bourke Trophy was won by Anthony Johnson (6up) ahead of Rod Milburn (5up) and John Colman (4up).

Alec Jones (35) triumphed in Bellingham’s Stableford Cup Qualifier on countback from close challenger Michael Davison (35). Chris Clark (34) was not far behind in third.

The top three in the Eileen Martin Memorial Trophy contested by the ladies at the club were all tied on 36 points, with countback putting Lorna Thornton ahead of Di Hutchinson, who in turn pipped Rachel Batchelor to the runners-up spot.

Vivien James (19) was triumphant in Alston Moor’s Florence Reed Salver, with Sandra MacKenzie (17) second and Anne Parkin (13) third.
