THERE was a popular winner at the recent Northumberland and Durham Golf Alliance Championship, played over two rounds.

For the current captain of the Alliance, Tynedale's PGA professional Martin Forster claimed the trophy with some consistent golf.

After the first round at Bedlington, Forster was just two points behind the leader after carding 78.

And it all came together in the following round at Matfen Hall, his round of 75 taking him to a combined total of 153, which was three better than runner-up Hughie McDonald, of Slaley, and five clear of former European Tour professional Stuart Smith.

Forster's success didn't end there, though, and he again teamed up with his favourite amateur partner Ritchie Kendrick, a member at the Tyne Green club, to win the Pro-Am pairing, also at Matfen, with 39 points.
