Wakefield winners

young birds from the four local clubs returned to Wakefield for their second race of the young bird programme at the weekend.
Although encountering heavy showers, with clearer air the youngsters made good time and returns were good for the 95-mile race.
In the Tyne Valley Homing Society race members sent 225 birds.
With a helping wind a fast race resulted in a win for the Hindmarsh and Telfer partnership.
Results: 1, 2, 7 and 8, Hindmarsh and Telfer 1654.65, 1647.5, 1625.3, 1624.8; 3, 4, 5 and 6, Hunter and Brewis 1642.02, 1629.22, 1626.53, 1625.72.
For the Tynedale Homing Society race, nine members sent 204 birds.
The first bird home was a blue cock which gave Hexham’s Steven Hawkes his first win of the season.

In the Hexham Homing Society race Strong and Son took the first four positions followed by W.A. and E. Armstrong.

Four Haltwhistle Flying Club members sent 25 birds from Wakefield.
A blue pied cock did the 100 mile race in two and a quarter hours to win for Colin Creighton,with good returns by all members.
They also held a race from Carnforth, a distance of 60 miles, when three members sent 44 birds.
Seven birds arrived together to give a one, two, three for Colin Creighton with three blue chequer hens.
