BOYS from Prudhoe High School put their sporting prowess to the test against the best young athletes in the country.

The school came through a series of qualifiers to compete in the intermediate boys section of the English Schools’ Athletic Association championships at Gateshead on Sunday.

Although the Prudhoe team finished well behind the field, headed by Southend High School for Boys, in Essex, there were some outstanding individual performances.

Top points scorer for Prudhoe was Lewis Cant, who impressed in the 100m, finishing in a time of 11.4s. He also took part in the shot competition, with a best throw of 10.80m.

Archie Leonard also gave an oustanding account of himself, finishing the 200m in 24.6s, and clearing the bar at 1.71m in the high jump.

Sam Jolly impressed in the javelin, throwing 43.99m; and followed this up with a run of 4m51.2s in the 1500m.
