Tynedale Ladies 5, Prudhoe YC Ladies 1

THIS long-awaited derby match was played in blustery conditions, with Prudhoe starting well with the wind behind them.

Prudhoe were on top in the early stages and took the lead with an unstoppable effort from a free kick from 25 yards by Megan Watson in the 21st minute.

The game then turned as Tynedale gathered their momentum.

After several wayward chances, they equalised in the 32nd minute, when following a strong run by debutant Jackie Barker, the ball fell to Joanne Dixon, who made no mistake from 20 yards.

The same player repeated the feat two minutes later in the 34th minute, when a pass from Amy Nicholson found her unmarked again on the edge of the box, and Joanne stroked the ball home from 18 yards.

Tynedale went into the half time with a 2-1 lead.

The second half started in the same vein as the first with Tynedale pressing and Prudhoe finding it hard to get out of their own half against the wind. The introduction of former Prudhoe player Steph Walker led to the game being put of reach of Prudhoe.

Another superb strike from Dixon struck the bottom of the post, and Walker reacted quickest to slide the ball home from eight yards for her first goal on her debut against her former club.

Just five minutes later Walker ran onto another through ball from Lambert and holding off the defender slid the ball home from six yards.

The scoring was completed in the 67th minute, when Kelly Hall ran onto the ball and from wide out right, managed to evade the keeper and put the ball home from 20 yards.

This was a convincing win for the home side against a very young, capable Prudhoe side.

After the game Coach Steve Ord again praised his side for their concentration and commitment.

The win took them into second spot in the league, with games in hand on leaders Percy Main.
