FOOTBALL: WITH a proven track record of developing up and coming footballers, Prudhoe Youth Club are now set to create a base to keep hold of some of their stars.

The club have applied to join the Northern Alliance ahead of next season which will see them have a Saturday senior side for the first time in their history.

Prudhoe YC have gained a reputation for producing top class players, the Alnwick brothers Ben (Peterborough) and Jak (Newcastle) and George Honeyman (Sunderland) locals who have learned their trade at the club before going on to make it pro.

But it’s the other talented footballers who don’t quite make it that the club are desperate to keep in the town, and a new senior side to complement the Sunday League team will aid this.

While Prudhoe YC will not know whether the application has been successful until the Alliance’s AGM on Thursday, June 11, the signs strongly suggest they will be competing in Division Two of the league in August.

And their introduction will address a lack of senior teams in the district, following the resignations of Stocksfield and Heddon in the past two seasons.

Newcomers Prudhoe are looking to help restore local pride in the district, targeting promotion to the Premier Division within five years and the heady heights of the Northern League within 10!

For the opening season, they will play their home games at Stocksfield.
