THERE was penalty heartache for Wylam Rockettes U15 as they lost their Northumberland Girls League Trophy final in cruel circumstances.

Drawing 2-2 with Newcastle East End, they were unfortunate to loe 4-3 in the dreaded shoot-out as they were denied the silverware.

It was a harsh way to end a spectacular game, girl of the game Emma Rankin and Molly Hails giving Wylam the lead twice before being pegged back on both occasions by Newcastle.

Despite a hat-trick from the prolific Stacey Billinghurst, and a star performance from Lucy Cheesman which saw her named girl of the game by league officials, Wylam Rockettes U13 lost their cup final 6-3 to Blyth Town.

Wylam Rockettes U14 , however, bounced back from losing their final to Hexham U14 by ending their season in style, girl of the game Annie Spragg and Hannah Dodgeon scoring two each, and Anna May-Slowie the other, in a 5-0 victory over Alnwick Town.

Ellie Wright signed off in style too as the girl of the game hit five in Hexham U14’s 6-2 victory at Burradon. Megan Boyd joined her on the scoresheet.

There was a sporting gesture by Hexham U16’s Pin Point Recruitment Junior League opponents Ashington as they dropped down to nine men to match their depleted rivals. And Hexham ended their season with a 3-0 victory, their goals coming from man of the match Olly James, Tom Lewis and Jack Muncer.

A winner three minutes from time from Adam Newton kept Hexham Greens U13’s dreams alive of clinching the North East Youth Development Premier League title alive.

He scored a screamer to decide their game with Whitley Bay 2-1, Matthew Kilby cancelling out Bay’s opener before Newton earned the three points going into a must win game with title rivals Newcastle City.

Two goals from George Brady and one each from man of the match Jack Maxwell and James Oakenfold saw Hexham Hornets U12 round off their year with a great 4-1 win over Wideopen.

Stocksfield Lions U12 guaranteed promotion from Division Five of the Russell Foster League with a dominant victory at fellow promotion chasers Seaham.

They had to come from behind, though, but two goals each from Ellis Findlay and Shea Sullivan and one apiece from Sandy Dodgeon and Joel Garvin Dawson earned them the points. Seb Glover was man of the match.

It followed a comprehensive victory over Lumley as four goal hero Shea Sullivan guided them to victory. Ellis Findlay hit three during a great display, while Lewis Flechenstein was man of the match.
