TYNEDALE Ladies clawed three points back on third placed Castleford White Rose Ladies as they struck seven times.

The hosts moved to within three points of their Premier Division rivals and with a game in hand as they put them to the sword during the 7-1 victory.

Tyne were off to a flyer when a poor goal kick landed at the feet of Christine Murray, and the striker smashed the ball past the helpless goalkeeper.

They remained on the front foot but were pegged back on 20 minutes as Molly Ward found a way past Becky Jones.

Yet, that was as good as it got for Rose as Tynedale were back in front 10 minutes before the break as Murray’s corner was met with a bullet header from Ashley Lambert.

They went into the break 3-1 up as Murray got her second of the afternoon following good work from strike partner Megan Watson. Tynedale were full of confidence and, after Lauren Ray flashed a shot wide, Murray capped a player of the match performance by completing her hat-trick, even if some would argue she meant to cross the ball rather than shoot.

The home back four of Kate and Laura Hepple, Jen Alford and Jane Riddell kept the Castleford forwards quiet, and it allowed Tynedale to remain on the offensive as Watson and Siobhan Simpson went close.

The fifth goal did come courtesy of substitute Siobhan Owens, with Waston keeping her great goal scoring form for 6-1. Simpson then rounded off the scoring as she this time found the target.

Despite the best efforts of goalkeeper Kenni Clarke, Prudhoe Town Women went down 3-0 to South Shields Ladies in the Northern Division.

Without a game since January, Prudhoe put up a good battle against their visitors but they, and woman of the match Clarke, were unable to contain Shields’ fire power.
