THERE was double cause for celebration in the Tyne Valley as two youth teams were crowned league champions at the weekend.

Both Corbridge United U14 and Stocksfield U14 clinched the title after impressive seasons, Corbridge gaining promotion from League Five and Stocksfield ending their dominant year in the Saturday League top of the pile.

There was a nervy ending for United as they required seven points from their final three games, but a great run of form saw them pull it off as their 4-1 victory over Ponteland Pumas U14 put them three points clear of second placed Whitley Bay BC Blacks.

Man of the match Harry Murray’s hat-trick and a strike from Jem MacQueen ensured the title party celebrations could get started.

It was a bit more straight forward for Stocksfield who have been favourites throughout the season, two goals from man of the match Matthew Catnach and one from Archie Leonard meaning they can no longer be caught with still two games to play.

Corbridge have the chance to complete the double as they meet Prudhoe YC Blues U14 in next Thursday’s West Division Youth Cup final, but they will go into the final as underdogs with the Blues in good form in League One.

An excellent team performance saw them defeat Montagu Blues 4-1, Cameron Richardson scoring two and Ben Ridley and Archie Leonard one each. George Priest was man of the match.

Despite scoring five times in an excellent performance, Haydon Bridge United U13 ended the season on losing terms as they went down 6-5 in a thriller with Blyth Rangers Deportivo in League Five.

Goals from Kian McKinnel, Jamie Connor, Shay Dickinson, Jordan Reynolds and Brandon Bland, and a man of the match display from Niall Buchanan, fell just short.

Free-scoring Haydon Bridge United U15 finished with a healthy victory, though, as hat-tricks from Steven Heslop and Owen White, and singles from Shay Stoker, Jason Arnup and Joey Robson helped them to victory over Blyth Town Greens in League Four. Tom Anderson was their star man.

Corbridge United U15 moved into second spot in League Three as a hat-trick from star man Ben Milner and strikes from Alex Hannant and Josh Trewitt saw them to a 5-3 triumph over Bedlington Lightning.

Ponteland United PSG U15 lost to League One title favourites Newcastle East End Whites despite Will Scott netting and Jamie Clark starring.

Hexham U16 saved the best until last as a fantastic display saw them defeat Heaton Hawks 3-1 in League Two, their goals coming courtesy of man of the match Olly James, Jack Muncer and Jack Feeley.

Matthew Percival and star man Lewis Twizell both bagged trebles as Corbridge United U17 beat Cramlington Town U17 in the League Three Subsidary, with George Cook and Sam Austin joining their teammates on the scoresheet.
