A DAN Thompson double saw Wallington bounce back after two disappointing defeats.

Having lost two games to the teams occupying bottom spot in the Premier Division, they returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory at a blustery Ashington Colliers.

It was striker Thompson taking the plaudits for both goals, netting either side of an Ashington equaliser.

The pacy forward raced on to a through ball from Justin Millican from the left hand side, and he cut in and gave the keeper the eyes to squeeze the ball past him at his near post.

Ashington were level within a minute, but Thompson struck again with an opportune goal to put Wallington back ahead.

Millican’s cross seemed to be hurtling harmlessly towards the home goalkeeper, when the striker came out of nowhere and controlled the ball before rolling it over the line from a difficult angle, colliding with the post for his trouble.

Midway through the second half, Wallington goalkeeper Rob Hodgson pulled off a great save to keep his side ahead. And they pushed for a third goal but Kyle Reardon was denied by an offside flag, reacting to Thompson’s saved effort only for the goal to be ruled out.

Wallington go looking for their first double of the season when they play Ashington in a quick fire double header with the reverse fixture on Saturday.
