TEENAGE goalkeeper Shay Adamson prevented Prudhoe Town getting something from their encounter with Seaham Red Star Reserves.

The 17-year-old shot stopper pulled off a string of top saves to frustrate Town, Seaham going on to win the game 3-1.

Prudhoe did gain an early lead as they found a way past Adamson, a diagonal ball to Jack Wanless seeing him poke the opener home.

But back came Seaham and they went into the break ahead as Kyle Morris and Marc Ruddock found the net.

Prudhoe did all the probing in the second half but beat the impressive Adamson, allowing Ruddock to extend Seaham’s lead at the other end. Arron Fletcher finally broke the goalkeeper‘s resolve with a second Town goal with 10 minutes to go, but the visitors saw it out to keep Prudhoe second bottom in the Wearside League.

Last season’s beaten finalists, Ponteland United were eliminated from the Bay Plastics Combination Cup at the first hurdle after going down 5-3 on penalties to Newcastle Chemfica.

After a goalless 90 minutes, the tie went into extra time with Chemfica gaining the upper hand through Tommy-Lee Bainbridge.

But the game was taken to the shootout when Chris Garwood levelled with five minutes left, Chemfica progressing by putting away all five of their pens with Jack L‘Argent missing for Pont.

Hexham were unable to progress to the next round too as they went down 3-1 away to First Division leaders Shilbottle CW.

Adam Greenwood hit a consolation as Prudhoe YC Seniors were sent out of the Bluefin Sports Insurance Amateur Cup as they lost 3-1 to Cramlington United.

There was an impressive performance from man of the match James Watson, who spent last season at local rivals Prudhoe Town, while Prudhoe can take many positives from a decent display despite the result.

Wallington ran second placed Walker Central close but ended up with nothing to show for their efforts as they went down 2-0 in the Northern Alliance Premier Division.

Alston Moor Sports Club made it six wins as they extended their unbeaten start to seven games, defeating Wolsingham 2-1 in the Colin Waites Cup.

Neither of the district’s senior ladies teams were able to make the third preliminary round of the FA Women‘s Cup, Tynedale Ladies losing 4-0 at Lowick United Ladies and Prudhoe Town Women going down by five goals at Boldon Ladies despite striker Lauren Cannell impressing.
