TYNEDALE Ladies raced into a two goal lead against table topping Barnsley Ladies but couldn’t keep hold of the three points.

The high-flying visitors scored four goals in the second half to earn a 8-3 victory, the scoreline harsh on the hard working Tyne side.

Tynedale started well and Jane Riddell was unable to steer her chance on target, but they didn’t have to wait long for the opener as Siobhan Simpson smashed home Vicky Mudd’s pass on five minutes.

The lead was extended just five minutes later as Jennifer Alford headed Christine Murray’s corner over the line, although Barnsley immediately reduced arrears.

Barnsley started to get a foothold in the game and were level at 2-2, just moments after Mudd headed over from a corner.

Tyne goalkeeper Becky Jones kept her side in it with a fantastic save from a one-on-one, but she was powerless to prevent a super strike from 25 yards giving Barnsley the lead.

The game was stopped when a Tynedale player had to be taken to hospital by ambulance, and the injury disrupted the home side as Barnsley quickly made it 4-2.

Back came Tynedale who replied as Murray found the unmarked Lauren Ray to fire home, but a rampant Barnsley ran in four further goals to make sure of the points.

A Kelly Loughhead strike was in consolation for Prudhoe Town Women as they lost 6-1 to Cramlington United Ladies in the Northern Division.

With United leading 2-0 at the break, Prudhoe, best served by Katy McGurk, were back in it as Loughhead netted before the hour. But Cramlington went on to run away with it with four goals in the last half hour.
