THREE goals from teenager Sam Mannion saw Prudhoe Town to just their second Wearside League win of the season.

An excellent team performance saw them thrash Harton and Westoe CW 5-0 in midweek, youngster Mannion stealing the show by finishing with a hat-trick.

He was joined on the scoresheet by teammates Josh Brooks and Jack Wanless as they stunned eighth placed Harton.

At the other end, goalkeeper Ryan Chambers was well protected by his defence as the hosts successfully managed to shut out their opponents.

They were unable to build on the momentum although they did pick up a point against previously pointless Murton.

Town had to contend with some tough tactics from the bottom club, Arron Fletcher on target for the home side in the 1-1 draw.

Prudhoe YC Seniors put in an excellent display to earn a great 2-1 victory in Northern Alliance Division Two over fourth placed Alnmouth, moving up to eighth spot in the process.

Already under strength as they travelled with just 13 players, the commitment from all was exemplary as they battled on through injuries and knocks.

Prudhoe rocked their hosts on seven minutes when Scott Brown finished a move when played through by debutant Connor Bell.

The new boy was making a big impression and added his name to the scoresheet on the half hour, using his pace to get on the end of a Paddy Finnerty through ball to dispatch the ball into the bottom corner.

Prudhoe tired in the second half and Alnmouth pulled a goal back, but an excellent team effort, particularly from man of the match centre half John Hudson, debutant Ben Dobson, Phil Murray and 17-year-old James Hardwick, helped them hang on to the three points.

After three weeks of cup ties, Hexham returned to league action in fine fashion as they thumped five without reply past New Fordley in Division One.

Having survived a first minute scare, Hexham dominated the encounter and were one goal to the good on 30 minutes when Matthew MacLoughlin, making his first appearance after injury, latched onto a Matt Wilson pass to power home the opener.

Fordley came within inches of levelling but for a terrific block by Tom Hacking, and it allowed Hexham to push on at the other end with Marc Nixon extending their lead as he turned and fired past Reece Dobie.

Wilson made it three when he sent home the rebound when MacLoughlin’s effort came back off the crossbar, and MacLoughlin was again involved in the fourth as he won a penalty when cynically scythed down in the area.

Kurtis Harvey sent Dobie the wrong way from 12 yards out, before the scoring was brought to a close when Patrick McAlindon appeared from nowhere to divert a cross from the impressive Lewis Loughhead into the back of the net. Zac Bewley rescued a point for Ponteland United as his strike seven minutes from time earned them a 2-2 draw with Newcastle University. He wormed free and struck a volley from just inside the area to level the scores, the goal completing Pont’s comeback from two goals down.

After a goalless first half, Newcastle raced into a two goal lead with two quickfire goals from Olly Walker and Matthew Greenwood as they made debutant Derek Graham pay for missing a sitter moments earlier.

However, United roared back and Gary Cook got them back in it with 25 minutes to go when he reacted first following Graham’s blocked shot before Bewley came to the rescue late on.

Wallington slipped to a second successive defeat in the Premier Division as they went down at home to Carlisle City.

Ash McAlpine and Callun Donohoe registered but it was not enough as they lost by three goals to two.

Alston Moor Sports Club returned to Crook and District League action with winning ways, edging out a competitive Ferryhill side 2-1.

After squandering an earlier chance, the hard working Jossy Wright opened the scoring on the half hour when he diverted a cross from Ross Thompson.

Ferryhill punished Alston for missed chances when they levelled from the spot in the second half but, after strikers Callum James and Nathan Frazer both hit the woodwork, the points werre secured when Jake Shephard lashed home the winner from 15 yards out.

Woman of the match Natasha Johnstone grabbed a consolation goal for Prudhoe Town Women as they lost 3-1 to York City Reserves in the Northern division of the North East Women‘s League despite a much improved team performance.

Tynedale Ladies’ trip to Yorkshire ended in defeat as they were beaten 5-0 by Wakefield Ladies in the Premier division.
