HEDDON St Andrew's were denied the Division Two league and cup double as they lost on penalties to promotion chasing Ryton Social Club.

Title winning Heddon led the KO Cup final twice through man of the match Ross Bailey and Alex Burnie, but were pegged back by strikes from Jordan Martlew and Adam Bell as the game finished tied at 2-2 after extra time.

Ryton stopper Freddie Chambers stood tall in the shoot-out as he made three saves in the 3-2 triumph, while Dan Ryan was named star man.

They have the chance to end the season with two trophies though after overturning a 3-1 half time deficit to defeat Division One title challengers Hexham Phoenix 4-3 in Tuesday's semi-final of the League Cup.

Hexham led through two goals from man of the match Tony Lancaster and one from Patrick McAlindon, but a double from Dan Walker and singles from Richard Harrison and Mark Murtagh saw them through. Scott Flynn was man of the match.

Heddon will meet holders Haltwhistle Jubilee in the final as they needed penalties to edge past Prudhoe Social Club.

The teams were tied at 2-2 as Dan Kirkup and Nathan Bowerbank netted for Halty while Shaun Johnstone was man of the match, with Prudhoe's star man Marc Sagar and Andrew Finnie getting their goals. Jubilee won the shoot-out 5-4.

While disappointed in missing out on the League Cup final, Phoenix are into the final of Presidents Cup after smashing Barrasford 8-3 in the weekend's final four contest.

Man of the match Tony Lancaster, James Stokoe and Patrick McAlindon all bagged doubles, with Dan Burns and Kurtis Harvey also on target. For Barrasford, Marc Nixon scored two and man of the match Tony Jewitt the other.

In league action, Haltwhistle went top of the Division One table after putting seven without reply past bottom club Phoenix Chopwell.

Man of the match Greg Irwin slammed home five goals and Thomas Wilkie got two against a Chopwell side best served by Glynn Taylor.

It followed a 4-1 triumph in a hot tempered West Tynedale derby with Bardon Mill Bowes Lyon on Thursday evening, Reece Thirtle, Dan Kirkup, man of the match Mark Robson and Greg Irwin with the goals. Jason Elliott was on target for Mill, who again had teenager Ciaran Fleming impressing.

Man of the match Stefan Rainbow hit a hat-trick as Prudhoe Social defeated Prudhoe Town 4-1. Matty Fothergill also netted with Ste Forster scoring for Town who had Anth Porter man of the match.

The race for promotion from Division Two continues with Haydon Bridge Anchor putting together a late challenge, defeating Rose and Crown Bellingham 4-0 at the weekend. The victory was wrapped up by two goals from Kev MacDonald and one apiece from man of the match Dan Alexander and Kieran Robley. Defender Ross Milburn was named Bellingham's star man.

They followed it up with a 3-1 win over Haltwhistle Railway midweek as Mark Elliott scored two and Robley one with MacDonald named star man. For Haltwhistle, Andy Archer netted and Robert Graham was man of the match.

Hexham Hearts currently occupy the runners-up spot despite being held to a 1-1 draw at Railway. Man of the match Duncan Scott equalised late on to cancel out Archer's strike, with Matty Ballantyne named Haltwhistle's star man.
