PRUDHOE Town Women took an early lead in their Northumberland FA Women‘s Cup quarter-final - but were unable to keep up the momentum as they were denied a final four place by Whitley Bay Women.

There were just three minutes on the clock when Eleanor Oakenfold tucked a low effort past the Bay stopper to give the Northern division side the lead and hope of reaching the county cup semis.

However, Premier side Bay quickly got a stranglehold on the game and ran out 6-1 winners.

Five minutes after going behind, Whitley looked to respond but were denied in superb fashion as Town goalkeeper Danni Parker kept out her opponent from close range.

Bay’s pressure told on 21 minutes when they made it 1-1, and they went ahead on 38 minutes with a long range effort.

Having done well to keep them to within just a goal in the opening half, a valiant effort from Prudhoe‘s young guns went in vain as Bay went on to score a further four goals to sail into the semi-finals.
