WITH only five players available, Prudhoe Town were unable to contest their Charity Cup game at Cleator Moor Celtic.

An injury crisis coupled with players being away meant that Town had no option but the concede the preliminary round tie, gifting Celtic progress to the first round of the cup competition.

It was a hard blow for Prudhoe, but they were left with no other option as a result of the lack of bodies.

Club secretary Colin Thompson said: “We had five players available as we have players returning from pre-season with injuries, and we picked up more injuries from our game last Wednesday evening. With holidays and other commitments, we had no choice but to conceded the game as a one-off. We were gutted, but it was out of our control.”

Prudhoe were able to field a team for the league clash at Silksworth Colliery Welfare on Wednesday, but still prop up the rest of the table as the 3-1 defeat keeps them looking for their first point after three games.

Prudhoe have the opportunity to get up-and-running when they welcome South Shields Reserves on Saturday.
