FIVE goals in the final 25 minutes saw Prudhoe YC Seniors record the rout they dominant display deserved.

Frustrated time and again by bottom club Gateshead Redheugh 1957, mainly due to their man of the match goalkeeper, the floodgates opened once they got their second goal on 65 minutes.

Prudhoe controlled the game throughout, but could have gone behind early on when a couple of misplaced passes and nervous moments in defence threatened a Gateshead breakaway.

Once the hosts settled down, though, they were well on top with the first chance of note seeing Sam Dibb-Fuller power a 30 yard drive just over the crossbar 10 minutes before the break.

Moments later, Sean Brown was hauled down with referee Colin Smith deciding the offence took place outside of the area, contrary to the hosts' beliefs. From the free kick, a fierce drive from Matty Robinson was spilled with Jack Bell failing to get the necessary touch to divert the ball.

It was only a matter of time before Prudhoe broke the deadlock, and it came on 40 minutes courtesy of an excellent team move.

From goalkeeper Jack Walker, the ball was played from centre half Brad Rodgers to midfielder Lee Blackburn, whose excellent through ball picked out Robinson. He powered to the bye-line and cut the ball back into the path of Brown to make no mistake from 10 yards.

Robinson had a chance to extend the lead just before the break when he broke clear, but the visiting goalkeeper thwarted him by making a save while one-on-one.

The second half started with Prudhoe still on top, Blackburn this time going close with a 30 yarder and Dibb-Fuller denied by a good save after bursting clear.

The lead was finally extended on 65 minutes when Robinson's corner was collected at the back post by Danny Driver, and he smashed home from six yards after his initial shot was mis-hit.

It was soon 3-0 when, moments after firing over the bar himself, man of the match Sam Mannion fed Bell to steer the ball into the back of the net.

The goals continued to come and a well worked move between Darren Graham and David Burns ended with Bell claiming his second of the afternoon.

The fifth goal on 78 minutes was an astonishing strike and an early contender for goal of the season, as Graham again found space on the right and clipped a ball into the box which Freddie Allan smashed into the top corner with an amazing volley from 15 yards.

Allan was to complete the rout as he slotted home from 12 yards after being teed up by Robinson, who claimed a third assist of the game.

In Division One, Hexham were left ruing missed chances as their hosts Cramlington United picked up their first points of the season.

The visitors returned to the Tyne Valley full of frustration as they passed up the chance to keep up with the teams at the top, ending on the losing side of a 4-3 scoreline.

Robbie Pattison, Kurtis Harvey and Hamish Forsyth netted for Hexham, but it wasn't enough as they slipped to three points off top spot.
