ALSTON Moor Sports Club remained firmly in the chase for promotion after a 3-1 win at Barnard Castle Glaxo Rangers.
Knowing three points would guarantee a top three place in Division Two of the Crook and District League, they stuck to their task and found the win.
The promotion would cap a great year after they had already lifted the Colin Waites Cup, as well as coming close to causing a shock in the Weardale Cup.
Although they are currently seven points off top spot, the league title is still a mathematically possible with five games remaining.
To make sure of a top three finish, there were two goals from Nathan Frazer with the result guaranteed with an excellent header from Jordan Norris.
It followed a big win in midweek over Wolsingham as they had to battle hard after a weary start.
They raced into a two goal lead through goals from Frazer and Ellwood, but were pegged back to 2-2 after some poor defending.
But they recovered well to grab the three points, Frazer scoring another and Ellwood getting two more for the 5-2 win.
Prudhoe Town’s unbeaten run continued in the Wearside League as they shared four goals with hosts Gateshead Leam Rangers.
They came from behind on two occasions to draw 2-2, Arron Flethcer finding the first equaliser shortly after the second half kicked off.
Gateshead regained the lead, but a free kick from Michael Rankin ensured there was a point apiece for both.
Ponteland United are up to third in Division One of the Northern Alliance after back-to-back victories. A 3-1 win at Newcastle Chemfica (Independent) at the weekend was followed up with a 3-0 victory over Lindisfarne Custom Planet on Monday evening. They defeated Hebburn Reyrolle 3-1 last Wednesday.
Two goals from Dan Thompson either side of a Ben Fenwick free kick saw Wallington come from behind to defeat Percy Main Amateurs in the Premier Division.
Despite a battling performance at runaway champions Gateshead A, Prudhoe YC Seniors ran out of steam in their Division Two match-up.
They ended up losing 6-3 with their goals coming from man of the match Scott Douglas, Lee Blackburn and Ben Dibb-Fuller.
Ponteland United Reserves remain second in the Tyneside Amateur League as a double from Scott Hulse and singles from Daniel Troughton and Gary Oliver saw them to a 4-2 win over Blyth Town Development. They suffered a setback at the weekend with a Gareth Brack goal consolation in a 2-1 defeat to Gosforth Bohemians Reserves.
