THE post denied Alston Moor a second successive point in the Crook and District League.

Debutant Andrew Robson came close to making an instant impact as he fired a shot on goal in the dying moments of their game with Wear Valley, his effort striking the woodwork to see the team go down 2-1.

Alston travelled to Wear Valley with an under strength squad and many players carrying injuries, but put in a valiant display against the odds.

They had the better chances in the opening half, Jossy Wright sending a free kick just wide and Callum James breaking clear only for his touch to desert him.

Wear were forced to work hard to create any chances but when they did they found Alston's man of the match goalkeeper Jason Williams in excellent form.

They finally beat him just before half time, though, a powerful strike from outside the area kept out but falling to an onrushing striker to finish the move off.

Alston again had to defend for their lives after half time with Williams again impressing, and it built a platform for attack as Robson headed the ball square to John Wright to hit a left foot volley in off the post for 1-1.

Wear Valley were back on top with 15 minutes left to play though, the ball bundled home to ensure all three points were staying with the home side.
