PONTELAND United continued their impressive form as five goals past Division One rivals Hebburn Reyrolle saw them progress in the George Dobbins League Cup.

Level at 1-1 at the break, they found the goals their dominance deserved to run away with it and finish things off with a 5-1 victory.

With the game switched to Bullocksteads due to Ponteland Leisure Centre still being waterlogged, United again started brightly with Hebburn goalkeeper Gary Rogers having to be alert in the early 10 minutes to keep out Richard Darwent and James White twice.

As Pont continued to press, the opener looked a certainty but it came from an unusual source as central defenders Glenn Ford and Rory Spencer combined in the box for the latter to calmly clipped it over the head of Rogers.

For all their dominance, United were pegged peg five minutes before half time as debutant Shaun Revenhall drilled the ball to James Patterson on the edge of the area who shot through a crowded penalty area for 1-1.

Ponteland continued to probe after the break but were unable to find the all-important second goal in the early exchanges, White, Christopher Douglas and Reece Havelock-Brown all spurning chances.

However, they regained the lead with half an hour remaining when White crossed for Ethan Bewley, who skilfully rounded Rogers to give his side a 2-1 lead.

The third came 15 minutes later after Bewley and Paul Jones played a neat one, two with Jones firing a ball across goal for Douglas to turn into the roof of the net.

With the wind in their sails, they added to their total as Gary Cook fizzed a low ball across goal which Bewley neatly side footed home.

Both Liam McIvor and Havelock-Brown saw efforts come bouncing back off the foot of the post, but it was over to the latter to round off the scoring as he capped a good display by finding the back of the net as time winded down.
