Their Year 7 boys’ football team were embroiled in a real battle with finalists Ashington High, but edged them out 2-1 to lift the U12 Wilks County Cup.
In an end-to-end encounter, the game could have easily gone either way but both goalkeepers were on top form. It was Ponteland celebrating the cup glory though, as goals from Charlie Russell and Bradley Foggin saw them home.
It was a big boost for Ponteland Middle as the success came in the same week that it was informed it has been saved from closure as its been granted permission to convert to an academy.
PE teacher Stephen Salter said: “I am extremely proud of the boys. They stuck together and it was a real team effort.”
