TALENTED footballers from Tynedale just missed out on making a national final.

Ovingham Middle School‘s year 7 boys’ team finished second in their group at the Northern Schools indoor football tournament, agonisingly denied a place in the grand final against teams from across the country.

Having stormed both the Tynedale and Northumberland championships, they went into today‘s (09/02) event full of confidence.

They were unbeaten in their opening three matches as they drew 2-2 with Trinity, of Cumbria, and then Durham’s St Thomas Moore (1-0) and Ecclesfield (6-2), of North Yorkshire.

They were then involved in a winner takes all decider with St Aidan‘s, of Yorkshire, but a 2-0 defeat meant it was the end of the road for the Tynedale youngsters.

Despite the agony of missing out on making the biggest stage, the lads should be proud of how far they progressed against some really good teams.
