FORMER Prudhoe Town midfielder Nathan Burrell produced a last minute winner to deny his old side a share of the spoils.

With hosts Prudhoe hanging on to a 1-1 scoreline after guests Ashbrooke Belford House dominated the second half, their resolve was broken at the death as Burrell powered a header from a corner past teenage goalkeeper Shaun Green.

The goal had been coming as Ashbrooke asked all the questions in the second period, although Prudhoe deserved to take more than just a one goal lead into the break after a fantastic first half showing.

Town played started the game well and were well on top during the early exchanges, playing some good stuff which saw them trouble the away defence.

They were working the channels well and always looking to get behind, and the opening goal came after they earned a corner.

Cameron Tait’s whipped in corner was flicked on by Ste Forster, and in stormed David Wansell to latch on to the ball to put his side on the front foot.

For the remainder of the half, Prudhoe looked comfortable but were unable to trouble the away goalkeeper too much as they went into the half with just a slight advantage.

Ashbrooke turned the game on its head after the break though, and they took the game to a Prudhoe side who looked like they were still in the changing rooms.

Their work to get back into the game paid off with half an hour to go when an individual error at the back was pounced upon. Ashbrooke striker Stephen Bogie made the most of the gift as he made his way towards goal and slipped the ball past Green.

The momentum remained with the guests as they pushed for the winner, Prudhoe looking tired as they tried in vain to get hold of the ball.

Just as they looked like doing enough to earn a point, they conceded a corner which was attacked at the back post by Burrell as he earned his side all three points.
