ALSTON Moor Sports Club threatened a comeback against a side which has lost just once from 17 games this season.

A spirited performance saw visiting Alston peg hosts Bishop Auckland Welcome back 3-2 after falling three goals behind, but it was a false dawn as the home side went on to win it 5-2.

Alston goalkeeper Jason Williams had to be alert to the danger early on as he pulled off several great saves in the opening 15 minutes, but he was finally beaten as Bishop‘s pressure told.

At the other end, Alston fashioned a chance for striker Callum James but he was kept out by the keeper’s legs when through on goal.

The visitors continued to carve out opportunities but Jordon Norris was unfortunate to see his effort come crashing back off the crossbar.

Alston fell further behind when an excellent overhead kick extended Auckland‘s lead, and it looked game over when they added a third five minutes after the break.

However, they stormed back into the encounter and reduced the deficit to just one goal as Williams sent home a penalty and Jamie Ellwood finished off a great solo effort for 3-2.

Alston were dominant at this point but their inability to convert their chances cost them, Bishop stretching their advantage courtesy of an excellent team goal before they rounded things off with a cheeky back heel past Williams.
