FOUR goals in the final 20 minutes prevented Wallington from being embarrassed by the nine men of Seaton Delaval.

The guests couldn’t field a full team for the trip to a blustery Scots Gap, but had their hosts worried as they went two goals ahead.

However, Wallington’s incessant pressure translated into goals, and three points, even if two came from the penalty spot and one courtesy of an own goal.

Wallington created a number of chances in the first half but were unable to break the deadlock.

Striker Dan Thompson missing a one-on-one with the goalkeeper while Kyle Reardon, partnering Thompson up front, struck a shot which was inadvertently blocked on the line by his teammate Justin Millican. Disaster struck when Seaton took the lead before the break as they capitalised on a misplaced defensive pass. Moments after the restart, the visitors were presented with another gift and they were happy to make it 2-0.

But Wallington didn’t panic and kept pressurising their under strength guests, and they were back on level terms through two goals in two minutes. Both came from the penalty spot as Thompson converted twice from 12 yards, firstly after Reardon was fouled and then after John Meehan took a tumble.

The Greens were ahead on 70 minutes through a huge slice of fortune, Chris Moffitt’s attempted cross from his own half carried towards goal by the strong wind. The visiting goalkeeper was caught off guard and made a hash of his attempt to keep the ball out, palming it straight into his own net. Wallington’s nerves were finally settled with five minutes left on the clock, Reardon capping a man of the match display by finding the top corner after being fed by Thompson.
