PRUDHOE YC Seniors bounced back from their disappointing defeat to bottom side Blyth by holding unbeaten leaders Killingworth YPC to a 2-2 draw.

The graceful table toppers even admitted they were lucky to keep their run intact after facing a spirited Prudhoe side, the Youth Club team working hard for each other throughout.

Matty Robinson signalled the visitors’ intent with a shot which went just wide two minutes in, and Graham Bell came within whiskers of giving them the lead on 10 minutes when he crashed a header from Robinson’s cross off the crossbar.

Adam Greenwood had the ball in the back of the net just five minutes later, but he was judged to have started his run onto Bell’s through pass too early.

Brothers Dean and Sam Brown played alongside each other for the first time alongside fellow defender Danny Driver, and their strength at the back allowed Prudhoe to break the deadlock on 22 minutes.

Driver fed Darren Graham on the right, and his cross was powered home by the head of Greenwood. Killingworth enjoyed a stroke of luck as they drew level on the half hour, their striker played onside unwittingly by Sam Brown who went down injured near the goal-line.

The high flying hosts enjoyed a strong start to the second half and took the lead 10 minutes in when Michael Latimer curled a fantastic free kick into the top corner.

Yet it was all square within a minute as Prudhoe struck back immediately, Greenwood running on to Bell’s headed flick and then crossing low for James Watson to steam in and slot home from close range.

Killingworth pumped long balls forward as they searched desperately for the winner, but they faced a late scare when a defender had to clear off the line to deny Greenwood finding a Prudhoe winner.
