AN INJURY time strike denied Prudhoe Town all three points against big spending Horden CW.

Their hosts, tipped for the title by many this season, needed a goal two minutes after the 90 was up to find a last gasp equaliser to earn something from the opening day encounter with a sharp away side.

Strengthened by a number of new faces brought in over the summer months, Prudhoe dominated the opening half and their early pressure paid off as Horden‘s Paul Moss put the ball past his own goalkeeper with an attempted clearance within 10 minutes.

The impetus stayed with the Tynedale side and they hit the woodwork twice as they couldn’t find the killer touch to extend the lead. At the other end, goalkeeper Ryan Chambers was also called into action to keep his side ahead.

Horden asked all of the questions after the break but a resolute Town weathered the storm as they looked likely to record the famous victory.

In fact, all three points looked theirs as they broke three on one in the final minute only for striker Ste Forster‘s ball across goal to be intercepted by midfielder Matty Smith.

Within minutes, the ball was recycled upfield and substitute David Halliday marked his first outing for his new club by powering a header past Chambers to pinch a point for the hosts.

Town were disappointing on Wednesday evening, though, as they went down without a whimper in the 4-1 defeat to Boldon CA. Their only goal came from teenager Sam Mannion.
