HEXHAM’S Wentworth Leisure Centre has again been awash with young footballers from across the Tyne Valley.

Over consecutive weekends, Tynedale Mini Soccer League has held its U8 and U9 indoor five-a-side tournaments with plenty of enthusiasm from hundreds of the district’s young guns. In the most recent U9 festival, there was a total number of 15 teams hailing from Allendale, Corbridge United, Haydon Bridge United, Hexham, Kingston Park, Prudhoe Youth Club and Wark.

And it was Prudhoe YC Storm who again showed their great potential as they lifted the Shield after edging out Allendale in a close final. Kingston Park Tigers took the runners-up Plate after overcoming Wark in the final on extra time.

The U8 tournament, also featuring U7 sides, attracted 16 teams from Allendale, Hexham, Corbridge United, Prudhoe Youth Club, Stocksfield, Haydon Bridge United, Kingston Park and Throckley Magpies. The latter were celebrating silverware with their Real said defeating Hexham Eagles for the Shield after both groups were very tight.
