FOUR goals in extra time fired Hexham in to the semi-finals of the Combination Cup.

Tied at 2-2 with Hebburn Reyrolle after 90 minutes, they ran away with it in the added on time to win 6-2 with Tony Lancaster hitting two to complete his hat-trick.

The tie was originally scheduled before Christmas but was abandoned 50 minutes in when an injury to a Hebburn player halted the game. Hexham were leading 2-1 at the time.

As a result, the replayed tie was a fractious, hot tempered one which was expertly controlled by experienced referee David Toor.

It was the hosts of Hexham who looked the more likely to take the tie in normal time, needing just 12 minutes to get up-and-running as Robbie Pattison broke the deadlock.

But Reyrolle were making a game of it and the teams went into the break on level terms with David Stansfield levelling on 34 minutes.

Hexham regained the lead through Lancaster just three minutes into the second half, and the home side remained on top for the remainder of the game but were unable to find a third goal which would have killed the game off.

They were punished at the other end, Stansfield again on target with just four minutes left on the clock to extend the quarter-final by half an hour.

But Hexham had too much for their guests in extra time, Hamish Forsyth wasting no time in putting his side ahead for the third time in the game.

Fellow teenager Brad Lowes made it 4-2 on the stroke of half time, and it was over to Lancaster to round things off as he completed his treble with strikes on 113 and 116 minutes.
