HAVING fallen at the quarter-finals hurdle on penalties in the past two years, Haltwhistle Jubilee are into the final four of this season‘s Northumberland FA Sunday Cup.

They took a step further this term as they edged past Newcastle Daisy Hill 4-3 in a hotly contested, competitive cup tie at Bardon Mill Cricket Club, the all-conquering Hexham and District Sunday League side aiming to add the coveted county cup to their brimming trophy cabinet.

Without the services of key player Dan Kirkup, who started on the bench due to injury, Haltwhistle fell behind after five minutes, only for the impressive Shaun Johnstone to level soon after.

The hosts got their noses in front when a corner from Mark Robson was diverted into the back of the net by a Daisy defender. However, the teams went into the break level at 2-2.

Haltwhistle pushed on in the second half and looked to have the game sown up when Dan Parker tapped home from a corner, before Greg Irwin opened up a two goal cushion when he converted after being put through.

Daisy Hill made for a nervy final 10 minutes when they reduced the arrears, but it is Haltwhistle, who had Johnstone and Jamie Peel sharing the man of the match award, who will have all eyes on the remaining quarter-finals games which are scheduled to be played this coming Sunday.

Hexham Phoenix are the new leaders of the Hexham Sunday League as a 5-3 victory over Barrasford moved them two clear of Prudhoe Social Club.

Orin Parkinson, Luke Parkinson, Kurtis Harvey, Patrick McAlindon and man of the match Stephen Marsden got their goals, with Marc Nixon scoring twice and Will Forsyth once for Barra whose star man was Bobby Oliver.

Division Two leaders Heddon St Andrew’s eliminated higher ranked opponents Halfway House Prudhoe to make the quarter-finals of the John Pickworth League Cup.

Leading marksman Dan Walker scored two with Ross Bailey and Alex Burnie also netting in the 4-2 success, while Mark Murtagh was man of the match. For Prudhoe, Lee Blackburn and Jack Stoddart netted, and Sam Brown was star man.

Hexham Hearts jumped up to second spot in the table following a fantastic 5-2 triumph over fellow promotion hopefuls Haydon Bridge Anchor.

Tom North scored two, and Dan Sempers, Jordan Teasdale and man of the match Duncan Scott got the others.

For Bridge, who were best served by defender Andrew Colquhoun, leading scorer Kieran Robley and Andrew Pape were on target.

Lee Riley found the back of the net four times to earn Hexhamshire their second three point haul of the season.

The man of the match led the way in his side’s 6-3 win over Adam and Eve Prudhoe, Phil Tipple and Mick Hodges joining their teammate on the scoresheet. Cam Hall scored two and Freddie Allan one for Prudhoe, who had Matt Harrison impressing.

Rose and Crown Bellingham won for the first time this season as Gary Shaw scored two and Adam Stephen one as they beat hosts Haltwhistle Railway 3-2.

Mark Storey and Craig Robson registered for Railway, and Stuart Sproul was star man, while Andy Wright was named Bellingham‘s equivalent.
