THE goals rained down as Haltwhistle Jubilee opened their Tyneside Amateur League with a comfortable victory.

They plundered nine goals against the division’s whipping boys Newbiggin Hall Vettic as they started their Saturday football journey in style.

They led after a minue as Dan Parker broke the deadlock, but Newbiggin were back on level terms after being gifted a goal. Striker Kieran Robley put Haltwhistle back ahead, but, again, sloppy play allowed the hosts to level.

But after that, a depleted Haltwhistle side took control and bossed proceedings, running away with the game.

Robley went on to complete his hat-trick with two further strikes, with Parker also adding to his early strike.

Greg Irwin finished with two goals and man of the match David Tremble and Mark Elliott also netted in the 9-3 victory.

Another big moment in the game saw Halty goalkeeper Lewis Weeks make a fantastic double save at 5-3.

Tyneside Amateur champions Ponteland United Reserves relied on a match winning goal from debutant Craig Hartley to make it 18 wins on the bounce.

The new boy scored the winner against Forest Hall YPC, where he was once captain, to secure the 3-2 victory.

United played with 10 men for 70 minutes after an early red card, and strikes from Tony Spratt, Darren Parkes and Hartley secured the 3-2 victory.

It was more plain sailing on the opening day as two goals from Dan Brown and one each from Sean McDonald, Joe Billham and Matty Miley saw them to a 5-1 victory over Killingworth YPC Cobras.
