IT went right down to the wire, but Haltwhistle Jubilee lifted the Hexham and District Sunday League for the fourth season running.

They repeated their 3-0 win over Hexham Phoenix in the final of the President's Cup the week before in the winner-takes-all deciding game to make it two pieces of silverware for the campaign, with the prospect of a third around the corner as they face Division Two champions Heddon St Andrew's for the League Cup on Sunday.

Having won two successive quadruples, Haltwhistle were ruled out of the running early in the season after Phoenix ended their dominance by scooping the KO Cup.

However, with a great run in the Northumberland FA Sunday Cup which saw him losing finalists, they have turned their season round and retained the title after winning their many games in hand.

Goals from James Charteries, Dan Kirkup and Norman Calvert, and a man of the match display from Shaun Johnstone, saw them to the three points over Phoenix, who had goalkeeper Sean Heads impressing between the sticks.

At the bottom of the division, Phoenix Chopwell signed off their season with their first win as they edged out Barrasford in an 11 goal thriller courtesy of doubles from Michael Foster, Paul Foster and Chris Bivona. Michael Calvert was man of the match.

For Barrasford, Tony Jewitt scored two and man of the match Gary Nixon, Jordan Ware and Gary Pigg found the back of the net.

Hexham Hearts have been promoted as runners-up of Division Two after Haydon Bridge Anchor lost their final game of the season to Ryton Social Club .

Bridge needed all three points to pip them to promotion after they defeated Swinburne Arms Stamfordham 3-1 in midweek, the goals coming from Kieran Robley (2) and Mark Elliott. Kev MacDonald was their man of the match, with Tony Stephenson starring for Swinburne who had Sam Walton registering.

It went down to the final day but two goals from man of the match Jordan Martlew and one from Adam Bell saw Ryton win 3-1, Darren Dobson in reply for Bridge who again had MacDonald named as star man.

Ryton finished third as they defeated Rose and Crown Bellingham 2-1 in midweek, man of the match Craig Stobbs and Nathan Reed getting their goals. Ross Milburn netted for Bellingham, with Ben King man of the match.

Haltwhistle Railway finished the campaign with a 2-1 victory over Hexhamshire courtesy of strikes from Connor Dickinson and Stu Sproul, and a star performance from Jay Pattinson. Glen Tweddle scored for 'Shire, who were best served by Phil Tipple.
