A TREBLE from teenager Adam Greenwood helped Halfway House Prudhoe to all three points on their return to Division One of the Hexham and District Sunday League.

The youngster, who is soon to depart for university, put in a man of the match performance in his side‘s 5-3 success over last season’s runners-up Hexham Phoenix . Joining him on the scoresheet were Lee Blackburn and Dom Walsh, with Kurtis Harvey, Luke Parkinson and Tony Lancaster on target for Hexham who were best served by Stephen Marsden.

In a fiercely contested Prudhoe derby, Prudhoe Social Club shaded their trip to neighbours Prudhoe Town 2-1.

Man of the match Stefan Rainbow and new boy Michael Gilroy secured the success, with Connor Vasey netting for Town. Ross Porter was the home side‘s star man.

Debutant Sam Moore made an instant impact for new club Stocksfield as his double saw them defeat newly promoted Phoenix Chopwell 2-0. He was overlooked for the man of the match accolade by defensive teammate Louis Wake, while Michael Foster earned Chopwell‘s equivalent.

Having finished bottom last year, Bardon Mill Bowes Lyon got their season off to a spectacular start as they beat Barrasford 5-1.

Barrasford, best served by Unpha Koroma, led through a Will Forsyth free kick, but Mill struck back with man of the match Liam Marsh and Mark Banks both bagging braces and Rob Hayes getting the other.

Heddon St Andrew‘s made an eye catching debut in the Hexham league as they thumped fellow newcomers Adam and Eve Prudhoe 16-0.

Clayton Charity Cup finalists Heddon had nine different scorers with Sean Hownam (three), Mark Murtagh, Richard Harrison, Michael Connelly, Jonathan Wood, Scott Flynn (all with two), Rob Howorth, Mark Richardson and man of the match Ross Bailey (all with one) on target.

Ryton Social Club also caused a shock on their first day as they reached double figures in their 11-2 stuffing of the much fancied Swinburne Arms Stamfordham .

Nathan Reed led the way with four and man of the match Scott Bennett helped himself to a hat-trick, with Kyle Dunlop, Jada Doris, Martin Smith and Karl Smith all getting in on the act too. Man of the match Tony Stephenson and Joe Slade netted for Stamfordham.

New signing Kieran Robley scored twice and Dan MacMillan once as Haydon Bridge Anchor inflicted a 3-1 defeat on newcomers Haltwhistle Railway Hotel . Ricky Armstrong starred for the Bridge, while Mark Storey netted a consolation and Lewis Weeks was man of the match for the home side.

Man of the match Tom North scored twice, and Paul Britten, Duncan Scott and Owen Hogg got one apiece, as Hexham Hearts came from three goals behind to beat Hexhamshire 5-3. Shire looked good value for maximum points on their first foray into the Hexham league as Lee Riley struck twice and man of the match Rob Parker once, but they finished the opening weekend with nothing to show for their great start.
