WALLINGTON followed up two successive defeats with two victories to get their season up-and-running.

Going into the third season of the campaign without a point, they kick started their year with a slender 2-1 victory at Percy Main Amateurs.

John Paxton and Ben Fenwick got the goals for Wallington, who were reduced to 10 men when Kyle Reardon was shown the red card. The returning Jordan Nellis was named star man.

They built on the victory to record the same winning scoreline on the daunting trip to Hillheads to take on Whitley Bay A on Wednesday, Paxton getting both goals.

An injury-hit Ponteland United were unable to keep up their good start to the season when they lost 3-1 to Shankhouse.

They were trailing 1-0 after Chris Marshall broke the deadlock when Zack Bewley had a penalty saved, moments before frustration got the better of brother Ethan Bewley and he was sent off for kicking out at an opponent.

Shankhouse made the most of the extra man as Marshall again netted to go 2-0 ahead.

But United were back in it with seven minutes to go when Bewley clipped a ball into Mason Stephenson, who had managed to get goal side of his marker and shoot past goalkeeper Joyce.

Any fight back was shortlived as Shankhouse found a decisive third two minutes laterm David Mason sending the ball home with an excellent strike from distance.

United slumped to a second successive defeat in midweek when they returned from Birtley Town on the losing end of a 2-1 scoreline.
