PONTELAND United Reserves significantly boosted their goals for column by putting a staggering 22 past Newbiggin Hall Vettic.

They thumped in the goals to inflict the heavy defeat on their Tyneside Amateur League opponents, United with 11 different scorers on target.

Simon Reay and Daniel Brown both scored four, while Daniel Mupungu hit a hat-trick. Daniel Coatchup, Ross Mackay and Andrew Davidson all bagged braces.

Joining them on the scoresheet was man of the match Darren Parkes, Owen Thompson, Joseph Billham, John McAdam and Kittisak Spratt.

It followed a comfortable victory over Monkseaton on the opening day of the season, although they had to come from behind.

In a game they dominated from start to finish, they found themselves trailing five minutes before the break when a weak back pass from Adnrew Wood was intercepted and converted by Liam Whyte.

However, United responded immediately to level the scores as Mupungu found the back of the net.

It was all one-way traffic after the break as new signings Reay and Davidson, who also claimed an assist as he was introduced from the bench, put them in control.

It was over to Brown to round things off with the final goal in the comprehensive 4-1 victory.
