TURNING up for the season opener without a goalkeeper, Wallington were well beaten on their travels to Seaton Delaval.

With David Stewart unavailable at the last minute, defender Si Brown returned to the club after a season out to don the gloves in the 6-2 loss.

It wasn’t ideal preparation for the new campaign for Wallington, who went unbeaten through their pre-season, but they did take the lead through a strike from Matty Blackith as he marked his return from injury.

But two goals at the end of the first half knocked the stuffing out of the Greens, Jack Foalle and Lee Gustard netting to put the home side in control.

Foalle went on to complete his hat-trick and Gustard was also on target again, along with teammate Ryan Nelson, as Seaton ran riot in the second half, which included three goals in the opening 15 minutes.

Wallington striker John Paxton did weigh in with a consolation with the score at 5-1, but it was a day to forget all-round for the Scots Gap side.

New signing John Meehan struck with the last kick of the game to earn Wallington a 3-3 draw with Walker Central on Wednesday evening.

While they thought they deserved all three points, they were happy to clinch the point in dramatic fashion as Meehan’s good added to the strikes from Paxton and Dan Thompson.
