PRUDHOE YC Seniors blew away their seaside hosts by firing home nine goals.

Leading within a minute, the Tyne Valley side were unstoppable as crisp, flowing passing moves cut open Whitburn Athletic at ease as they strolled to all three points.

Looking to bounce back after throwing away a two goal lead in their 2-2 draw with bottom club Ryton and Crawcrook A, Prudhoe were ahead within 60 seconds as Adam Greenwood collected a through ball from man of the match Dale Watson to slot home an instant opener.

On eight minutes, they were two goals to the good with Greenwood laying the ball back for Phil Murray whose glorious curled strike sailed over the goalkeeper’s head on its way into the top corner.

It remained that way until half time, and Whitburn were nearly back in it when Seniors shot stopper Jack Walker misplaced his pass to a home striker on 20 yards only for Walker to make amends by tipping the ball over with a superb flying save.

Prudhoe responded well and, after Jack Bell was unfortunate to see his shot go the wrong side of the post, Lee Blackburn made it three from the penalty spot after Greenwood was bundled over by an opponent in the area.

A superb move a couple of minutes saw Watson beat four players in a mazy run, and he found Muray who subsequently squared the ball to Andy Sagar whose strike from close range forced a fantastic save from the home keeper.

The fourth came five minutes later when Murray clipped a great ball down the line with the outside of his boot to find Greenwood, and the striker, picking the ball up 40 yards out, outpaced his marker and surged forward before steering a low shot past the keeper.

Prudhoe centre back Sam Brown then netted from 20 yards to make it 5-0 with 20 minutes remaining.

Whitburn collapsed as Prudhoe introduced fresh legs, all three substitutes netting, coincidentally, six minutes after entering the field of play!

Jordan Phillips hit a spectacular 25-yard rocket on 75 minutes, with Paul McCain sidefooting home the seventh after Greenwood pulled the ball back.

Debutant Andrew French grabbed a goal by making it eight with five minutes remaining, and Phillips completed the rout by striking a fine effort past the keeper from 20 yards.
