A FINE performance saw Alston Moor pick up their first win of the season.

They were fantastic in their 4-1 win over Evenwood, dominating the game as they put their guests up against it from the word go.

Playing into a strong wind, they controlled the first half and were rewarded when Nathan Frazer was put through on goal by Dan Alexander, and the striker made no mistake as he slid the ball past the advancing goalkeeper.

Alston doubled their lead when a superb pass from Gareth Hayton sent Callum James away, and he rifled the ball home after beating his marker.

The home side’s defence handled everything that came their way and goalkeeper Jason Williams was rarely tested, until he tipped a curling short over the crossbar in the 30th minute.

After the break, top scorer Frazer again showed his quality in front of goal as he punished Evenwood for more sloppy defending by winning the ball off them and slotting home.

The visitors did hit back when they were awarded a penalty, the gift accepted as they reduced the deficit.

Alston introduced teenager Alex Liverick to the play and he quickly showed his promise when he nutmegged his marker before setting up a chance for Ross Thompson, which just went too high.

The three points were secured when a clearance from Williams found man of the match James, and he shrugged off his marker and rounded the keeper to make it 4-1. The game fizzled out but Williams made an incredible double save from six yards.
