CRAMLINGTON United moved seven points clear of Prudhoe YC Seniors after inflicting a heavy defeat on their rivals.

While the 5-1 scoreline flattered the hosts, Prudhoe were suitably punished for uncharacteristic errors as they passed up the opportunity to close the gap on fourth place.

A well-organised Cramlington side caused early problems with direct balls to their pacey widemen, and Prudhoe goalkeeper Ryan Chambers was forced into three reaction saves in the opening 10 minutes.

But it was Prudhoe who took the lead on 17 mintues when Phil Murray played a great through into the path of Jack Bell who crashed the ball home with his first touch.

Prudhoe enjoyed plenty of the ball but were guilty of giving away possession cheaply, and they were punished on 28 minutes when a floated cross towards the back post sailed in as Chambers lost his footing.

The visitors should have been ahead again but Matty Robinson send a header from four yards wide, with United showing them how it was done at the other end as a firm headed effort gave them a 2-1 advantage at the break.

The Seniors were on top after the break but Sean Brown, Robinson and Murray were unable to convert their chances.

Yet three home goals in the final 10 minutes saw Prudhoe fold, Cramlington cranking up the pressure which saw them up to third in the table.

Prudhoe battled to a 2-2 draw with Blyth Town A in midweek with a top performance from all members of the team.

David Burns and Andy Sagar got the goals for the away side, with Dale Watson man of the match, but they were unable to move above their hosts.
