THE scoreline. suggests otherwise, but Prudhoe Town Women were involved in an end-to-end thriller with Wallsend Boys Club Ladies.

The visitors are into the next round of the League Cup after the 6-0 victory, but Prudhoe will take heart in their performance throughout the 90 minutes.

They rocked when Wallsend took a third minute later, but they came pouring back and Kelly Loughhead and Katy McGurk were just off target with their attempts.

Hope Lowdon ensured Town were just one goal behind just after 20 minutes when she cleared off the line as Wallsend broke against the run of play.

Prudhoe's play was disrupted when Catherin Johnston was replaced with an ankle injury on the half hour, Wallsend pushing on and taking a two goal lead and then hitting the crossbar twice.

Courtney Vacher had a header saved by the goalkeeper just a minute after Wallsend made it 3-0 on 47 minutes, with the score extended to four on 62 minutes.

Yet Prudhoe were still creating chances, Lauren Cannell going close with two free kicks and Johnston forcing a save from the home goalkeeper.

Further goals on 77 and 79 minutes for Wallsend put the outcome of the tie beyond doubt, but Prudhoe kept plugging away without reward as Vacher and Johnston tried their hands.
