PRUDHOE YC Seniors dropped two goals as they let slip a two goal lead to bottom side Ryton and Crawcrook Albion A.

In control and creating chance after chance at 2-0 up, they allowed a determined RACA to fight back as they clinched a point with a leveller 10 minutes from time.

Prudhoe were on the front foot from early on and Matty Robinson tested Ryton goalkeeper Andrew Wright with a rasping drive on 10 minutes, the ball parried back out to Robinson who crossed for Darren Graham, whose shot went just wide.

Scott Douglas then had a great chance to put Prudhoe ahead as he beat a defender and the goalkeeper, but saw his shot hit the post.

He wasn’t to be denied soon after though and, after an exchange of passes with Adrian Sutcliffe, Douglas punished Ryton for failing to clear their lines by slotting home the opener.

Moments after Sean Brown shot narrowly wide, Douglas got his and his team’s second as he diverted a cross from the right from man of the match Graham.

The striker nearly completed his hat-trick but his shot from 20 yards just cleared the bar, while Brown and Robinson also went close.

RACA were playing their fourth game in eight days but seemed to conjure up extra energy after the break as they stopped Prudhoe playing from the back by closing them down quickly.

Yet the hosts continued to create chances as Jordan Phillips forced Wright into another save. Ryton were given hope as they capitalised on some uncertainty at the back to reduced arrears with 25 minutes to play, while Adam Greenwood fired wide as he looked to reopen a two goal cushion.

It was over to the visitors to have the last say as they struck the equaliser on 80 minutes, the point lifting them off the foot of the table on goal difference.

Prudhoe had one last roll of the dice and defender Danny Driver’s header on goal was heading home until a last gasp intervention saw it cleared off the line.
